This powerful modality helps the body process emotions related to trauma and grief, providing new perspectives
Cognomovement is a cognitive movement exercise system that is designed to create changes to chronic problems and patterns in the body that can lead to anxiety, stress, illness, pain, fatigue, anger and depression, to name a few. This powerful modality helps the body process emotions related to trauma and grief, providing new perspectives. It utilizes cross body movements to harmonize the brain, and calm the nervous system. It activates learning centers in the brain, utilizing the kinesthetic, visual, and auditory systems of the body, and it has been used to help the body improve motor performance.
Cognomovement changes the way your brain and body handle stress. While noticeable change can be experienced after only one session, often times multiple sessions are needed because we often have layers to our patterns. Some sessions, or parts of sessions, can be uncomfortable as you move through different sensations experienced in the body. However with gentle movements through these sensations it can take you to a different way of interacting in the world.
As a Cognomovement Practitioner I work with individuals and groups to help people process stress, anxiety, trauma, and grief that people may experience in their lives.
As a speech-language pathologist, I utilize Cognomovement in conjunction with traditional speech-Language therapy sessions to get the brain ready for learning and to help regulate the body.

There are few therapies available that work
Having worked specifically with children/young adults with special needs over the past 12 years, it has become clear that the stresses of communication breakdowns and behaviors related to an individual's diagnosis, can impact not only the individual, but also effects the entire family system. There are few therapies available that work with both the individual and their family members. There are stresses that are unique to families and their children with special needs that some therapies are unable to address due to limited communication skills of the individual. Cognomovement is a modality that can be used with a person who has limited or no oral communication skills. Using this modality, people are able to increase attention to task, decrease the length/severity of behavioral outbursts and calm the nervous system so that they are able to continue to work on specific skills. Family members benefit from sessions to decrease stress and anxiety related to their child's daily challenges which can lead to improved interactions between caregivers and their children.
Individuals with different abilities often cannot initially handle long sessions or need frequent breaks. I will work with families to find a system and payment schedule that works best for the family. Sometimes it is best for family members to be seen individually, and other times it works to see all family members during the same session. Please call to discuss.
